There are a lot of emo bands popping up….everywhere, all the time. Taking Back Sunday came on the scene a couple of years ago, and I really didn’t see anything special about them: they weren’t bad, but they were very blah. Well, due to internal problems, the band’s lineup is totally different this time around, so maybe the CD has a more unique sound.

Unfortunately you already saw the rating and know that this album did not impress me. With their last release, “Tell All Your Friends”, I saw a lot of potential that just did not pan out. Every song sounded the same, and just seemed to drag out the pace of the album. The lyrics were very deep and the vocals had all of the spirit and emotion needed for that genre, but the songs just fell short. “Where You Want to Be” is an even bigger disappointment. While there are a couple songs worthy of becoming outplayed singles, I just could not listen to the whole thing without wanting a nap.

The only real song I enjoyed was “This Photograph is Proof”, which also appears on the Spiderman 2 Soundtrack. I was not a hardcore TBS fan before this album, but now I would even venture to say that I dislike them. After an album that showed great potential, I do not look forward to seeing a second album filled with no sign of this potential. The new lineup may work for the band, and it may add to the live show, but this band needs a shot of something else to give them the needed energy to produce a good CD. I would not recommend this to anyone who isn’t a die hard fan that needs every song by the band. Unfortunately, where I want to be is listening to something that lived up to potential and can keep my attention for more than 20 seconds. But there is always next time I guess…maybe another lineup change would produce a better sound.
