Redfield

By: Savanna Carel

What happens with you mix four amazingly talented guys, give them guitars, drums, and a few microphones? You get Redfield.

Redfield's driving sound has best been described as emo-influenced indie-rock with heavy rock-n-roll guitar riffs and powerful songwriting. One fan, Dewayne, age 19, explained to me, "They bring with them on stage the breakneck speed of a hard-hitting punk band, with feverishly delivered beats and chords, and yet simultaneously the orchestration and traditionalism of a classic rock band. The hybrid leaves the audience the freedom of choosing between exploding into a frantic circle pit, or headbanging like there's no tomorrow. Redfield's on-stage presence ignites spectators with a kinetic energy that must find an outlet -- unless you've lost your pulse, this band will have you moving." The remnant members of legendary Arizona punk bands Sam the Butcher, Seven Story Mountain, Fivespeed and Jedi Five joined forces to form this now three year old band, consisting of Alfie - lead vocals and bass, Chan - guitar and backup vocals, Chad - drums , and Big Mike - guitar.

Never heard of them before? Well it's about time you have. The year 2003 has been an amazing year for Redfield. They started the year off with a bang, recording their hit record, HellFire Club with the help of star producer, Jeremy Parker (whom also worked with Puddle of Mudd, and new sensation, Evanescense). Hellfire Club, released in Feburary, flew off the racks at an incredible pace , completely selling out and being number one in local Arizona record sales for a running of four months. They've earned a few good titles in their short time, such as Band Of The Month for september on The Zone, 101.5, and the song "Hope" climbed the charts to No.Six on the Top Freak'n Favorites on the Edge, 103.9, making Redfield the only unsigned band on the list. Redfield also caught the eye, and earned a trusty sponsorship from Budweiser True Music, not long after their release of Hellfire Club.

It's a proven fact that determination and hard work will take you where you want to go, especially when it comes to these four driven guys. They've hit Arizona by storm, sweeping unsuspecting concert goers off their feet with their high energy, high powered performances. " Redfield has come so far. I remember the first time i saw them at Edgefest a couple years back, and like some of the crowd was into it. Then at like the Warner Bros. Showcase, after Redfield's set, the crowd was chanting Redfield . It's amazing how good they have gotten," exclaimed Mac, a long time fan.

Their unique sound, and love for music appeals to a broad fan base. As stated above, "they will have you head-banging like there's no tomorrow". In their 3 years, they've earned a respective following, appropriately called, The County, which consists of many diverse fans, some fanatics. But one of the fans favorite things about Redfield is their down to earth, laid back attitude, and their love and appreciation towards their fans. One fan recalls, " I think my favorite part of the show is (well, the show, obviously) but talking to the guys afterwards. I've met bands where the members were complete assholes, but Redfield takes times for their fans, and it really shows in their following." Alfie, when asked for a quote for this article, replied, "Piss off... Just kidding, you know we LOVE our fans!"
