What I thought was interesting about this band was the fact that it actually originally started as just one guy who played every instrument in the band. He recorded all the instruments separately and put them together with computer software. This one guy’s name is Bryan Roach, and his inspiration to do this came after his previous band had split up. Since he saw music as his life, he wasn’t going to let the fact that he had no band stop him from making music.
Roach stowed away for months in his basement after the break-up and later emerged with demos of 30 new songs. At the suggestion of some of his friends in another band, Roach decided to go live with the music and put on some shows under the name “The Adored“. At first he had whomever he could find play the other instruments in the band, mostly just friends, so it usually wasn’t the same people every time. Eventually, however, he got some solid players and got a serious band going. With Jesse Fine on bass, Matt Fine on drums, Tedd Foxx on guitar, and Roach on vocals and guitar, the band began recording with Skidd Mills, a Memphis producer. They have not yet released a debut album, but plan to do that later on this year. Roach also says he would really like to start touring, but it is currently unclear when that will be able to take place.
Despite the fact that his origins are somewhere in Tennessee, Roach’s music does not reflect it. This is not your typical banjo-pickin’, knee-slappin’, barn-raisin’ Nashville-style country music common to that area. Bearing loud guitars, fast rhythms, and Roach’s vocal tenor, The Adored’s musical style can be compared to bands like Lit or the Foo Fighters. In songs like “Save Me,” this style is evident through their rockin’, energetic choruses and intense vocals. The song “Useless” shows a slightly more melancholy side of their music, even though it is accomplished in an animated, uplifting fashion. My favorite would have to be “Bullet in an Angel”; a somewhat rough sounding song at first that eventually develops into an intense, emotional peak. Even though their sound is somewhat basic, it is still decently original and has definite potential to go somewhere. The Adored is still in its infant years and still has time to cultivate its musical approach anyway, so they may have not hit their prime yet.
They recently have been touring around their home states of Tennessee and Missouri. Therefore, if you happen to live around that area and have a liking for lively alternative rock, I suggest you check out The Adored if they ever come around near you. However, if you are looking for some good ol’ fashioned cow herding’, field tilling’, I-lost-my-dog folk tunes, then these guys probably are not for you.
