EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

THE CLICK FIVE
by Julie Wagoner

While most college students tend to lack the ambition or focus toward a particular career, five gentlemen dressed in coordinated outfits are out on the road proving that even college students are capable of pursuing their dream job as a musician. In fact, a lot of great musicians started at the same school as the Click Five. Diana Krall, Paula Cole, Quincy Jones, John Mayer are just a few names that shared the same experience. So, it is no surprise that Boston's Berklee College of Music has once again produced another successful act to take over the scene. To my discovery, the band comes off as greater than life icons through their similar appearance to the Beatles as they are performing on stage. However, as soon as the uniforms come off, the band transforms into five down to earth guys who simply share a love for rock n roll. Check out our interview with the boys.

ALBUM SPOTLIGHT

ALBUM SPOTLIGHT: BAYSIDE
by John Frank

In much of the music scene today, originality is not something that is as common as one would hope. While it is one thing to be able to compare one band’s sound to another’s, there are too many instances where the music is essentially the same, but the lyrics are different. With this album though, there really is not much that I can compare it to. Bayside is a very necessary album that will fit nicely into just about any collection.

MOVIE SPOTLIGHT

THE ISLAND
by Grayson Steinberg

It’s really too bad that The Island doesn’t actually exist. Visiting it would probably be a far more pleasant experience than watching the film. The Island, directed by Michael Bay, the man behind such huge blockbusters as The Rock and Armageddon, rapidly transforms from what could have been a very intriguing, science-fiction drama that relates to present-day controversial issues into a poorly executed, run-of-the-mill action flick. The story begins with a focus on an isolated, self-contained community in the future where the supposedly last surviving remnants of the human race live and work, shielded by the apparent effects of a worldwide “contamination” that rendered most of the planet uninhabitable.

EXPERIENCE IT LIVE

DAVE MATTHEWS BAND
by Amy Farnsworth

Dave Matthews Band is composed of a group of musicians that never stop giving. Even when the heat index climbed to 115 degrees on Sunday, July 24, Matthews continued to show off his signature dance moves and joke with band members while wiping the sweat from his forehead and guitar with a towel between songs. It seemed that nothing could stop DMB from giving back to their loyal fans at Alpine Valley this weekend. Even though a violent storm and tornado warning threatened to stop the concert hours before the band was supposed to perform, many fans remained positive despite the long line of traffic waiting to enter the venue. When DMB heard that many people were waiting to get into the venue, they postponed the concert for 45 minutes allowing fans to catch the show.

THE SCENE

SUFJAN STEVENS
by Lauren Piper

Who is Sufjan Stevens? He seems like such an interestingly quirky person, I kind of want him to be my best friend. His bio in the Asthmatic Kitty Records (his personal label started by him and his step-Dad) website, describes him so whimsically and mentions the most minute details such as “He collects stamps and wheat pennies,” that you can understand how off the wall his music is. I think he would be the type of person who would come up with extremely ridiculous ideas but you would go along with him because he just seems so confident in doing it. Ideas like writing a concept album on every single state or a completely instrumental album dedicated to the animals of the Chinese Zodiac mixing electronic glitches, techno beeps and feedback with dark sounding orchestral pieces.
